On Wednesday, April 23, 2003, ABC's All My Children will make television history with the first daytime same sex kiss between the characters, Bianca Montgomery (Eden Riegel) and Lena (Olga Sosnovska).

"The theme of All My Children from the beginning is the belief that, as God's children, we are all bound to each other by our common humanity despite our many personal differences; that it is our failure to understand and respect those differences that causes most of life's pain and suffering... The Bianca story is our latest effort to dramatize that belief," says the show's creator Agnes Nixon.

Since coming out in October 2000 as an openly gay teenager, Bianca Montgomery, the youngest daughter of Erica Kane (Susan Lucci), has faced many trials and tribulations in her quest for love. When Bianca met Lena, questions arose regarding Lena's sexual orientation. As Bianca's feelings continued to grow, so did Lena's, even though Lena initially had ulterior motives. In a moment of truth and true love, Lena will come to terms with her feelings, giving Bianca her first on-screen kiss.

All My Children has consistently distinguished itself in the field of Daytime drama. The show has historically been committed to social issues, focusing on such topics as AIDS, abortion, teenage alcoholism, racial bias, acquaintance rape, spousal abuse, homosexuality, Reyes syndrome, Vietnam MIAs, drug abuse, the risks of motherhood over 40, safe sex, pet therapy and organ donations, among others.

All My Children celebrated its 33rd anniversary in January, 2003. The program has successfully maintained its popularity and continues to be one of Daytime's most compelling dramas.
