From Gloria and Karen

LEFTOVERS:

Folks: We are trying to catch up on last week, and after watching a SoapNet marathon, we’re almost there!

Karen: Why do you think Palmer isn’t in town to walk Erica down the aisle? I know it was explained by Nina’s medical crisis, but hope the reality isn’t that James Mitchell isn’t well. Do you know anything more?

Gloria: I haven’t heard a word, but my guess is that walking is probably getting more difficult for James Mitchell and that would be something they couldn’t hide.

Karen: You’re probably right, and that saddens me. We haven’t seen Ruth Warrick in such a long time, probably for the same reasons, and I miss their presence in Pine Valley.

Gloria: Yes, ITA. Did you know that James Mitchell (Palmer) and Eileen Herlie (Myrtle) are the same age in real-life? And that James Mitchell was born on leap day, February 29? Just a bit of trivia there for ya…

Karen: So, now all of the Fusioneers have been swept off their feet by the extremely charming Juan-Pablo and, despite the boulder-sized chip on her shoulder, Mia’s the only one who has been kissed!

Gloria: Do you see what they see in him?

Karen: Funny you should ask! You know I go more for the Sean Connery type and the young ones just don’t do it for me, but yeah, I see it—if I were the age of the Fusion gals, absolutely! It’s that twinkle in his eye and the “bad boy” aura mixed with charm, breeding and culture—I definitely see it! <grin>

Gloria: Okay, he has all that, I guess…maybe he will grow on me. Does he have tattoos, you think? <grin>

Karen: My heart was breaking for David and Anna! And, now we know Finola is leaving, so this is just moving toward its inevitable conclusion. Who do you think will be the next to share the sexy doc’s bed?

Gloria: Simone????

Karen: Well, David is one she’s missed, but I don’t see it at all!

Gloria: I forgot my <grin>. It was a joke…maybe David will help Erica pick up the pieces? Lots of fans loved them together.

Karen: What do you think of the way the rape storyline is being handled? I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a story where the rapist continues to torment his victim, and it’s very interesting how everyone is assuming that Bianca fears for their safety as opposed to her own. We’re seeing some very different twists early on in this new/old writing regime!

Gloria: I’m just not sure about the whole storyline—rape is a very important issue to all women—young, old, gay, whatever. The rape blurbs at the end have helped and should have run daily, but still… I would have thought a rape victim would relive the attack more than have the rapist “haunt” her. I’m a tad disappointed that she didn’t tell Erica and then go after Michael, except that I really liked Michael and am so sorry that he’s been written as a true “bad” guy despite the redemption groundwork (his relationship with his father) they seem to be building for his justification of the act.

Karen: I totally agree about the importance of this issue, and that the PSA should have run throughout the storyline. There is no justification for the act, although Alexander isn’t blameless either if he knew of his son’s propensity for violent attacks against women. I read that someone is killed in Pine Valley, and can only assume it will be Michael—let’s hope, anyway! But, I do think we’ll have William DeVry around in some other incarnation!

Gloria: My fingers are crossed. But, if history repeats itself, it might take years to kill him off—and Mona’s no longer around. <grin>[p
