QUITE A COMMAND POST!

Aidan puts a note next to Boyd’s name on the board before answering the door. Jack comes in and notes this is quite a little command post he has here, and all about the Cambias murder. Aidan agrees his investigation is a little different from the PVPD’s. Jack remarks that Aidan doesn’t see Kendall as a viable suspect, and asks if he’s trying to dump suspicion on somebody else? Devane shrugs it wouldn’t be hard. He moves aside so Jack can clearly see his name on the board as he says it’s already on him, like salt on chips. Jack reads the note by his name, “Tampered with inventory”, and assumes he can back that up. Aidan tells the D.A. he has friends down at the department, and it’s legitimate. Jack can count a few buddies on the force, too, but Aidan notes Derek isn’t one of them—he wants him to recuse himself from the case and is seeking censure from the Bar. Jack presumes Officer O’Neill told Aidan he let him into that evidence room. Devane agrees he did, and they’re now accounting for every bit of evidence before August 28th. Jack says if they’re looking for a missing .38 they’ll be sorely disappointed, because who in their right mind would have stolen that from the evidence room? Aidan thinks if he did take it and return it, he’s sure he had his reasons. Jack asks if he thinks he’s trying to protect someone here? Aidan says Anna’s very fond of him, and she’d want to give him the chance to tie up any loose ends. Jack notes that sounds like he thinks maybe it’s too late for him. He suggests he could plan an escape route for himself, just like Aidan did for Kendall, perhaps an island without an extradition treaty? Aidan insists they didn’t have a destination in mind, and Jack reminds him Kendall is the prime suspect in this murder investigation. If he was truly just trying to take her mind off things with a trip, he made her look even more guilty. He doesn’t want Kendall to go down for this murder, whether she did it or not, and Aidan insists she didn’t. He says Jack can’t separate his roles as D.A. and as a private citizen, because right now the police have their searchlight on him. Jack appreciates the heads up, and wants to return the favor. The M.E. is thisclose to their final findings to determine Michael’s time of death, so he may want to call his travel agent, because what they find may very well destroy Kendall’s alibi, “She couldn’t have traded ‘I do’s’ with a corpse.” Aidan notes the time of Michael’s death could affect a lot of people, not just Kendall, but David, Erica, Lena and Jack! Jack agrees any of them could have pulled the trigger, given the chance, and Aidan thinks one of them did. When he brings up Reggie’s questioning by the police, Jack points out he told them nothing, so Aidan can take his son’s name off that list! Aidan erases Reggie’s name as he agrees it’s too crowded, anyway. Jack says everyone on that list is protected by alibis that are shaky, at best. When Aidan says, whoever they arrest, the police can’t expect an open and shut case, Jack agrees they can’t, unless they further nail down the time of death. Aidan thinks an attorney could prove reasonable doubt with so many potential suspects; Jack agrees that would be a very good way to defend, but he wouldn’t want to try or defend this case; unless the police come up with something more concrete, there would be a very good chance whoever killed Michael Cambias could walk. He gets a call, and tells Aidan that was the M.E.’s office, “Looks like we’ve got our answer.”

ABOUT THE GUN…

Reggie deliberately drops a stack of books to make noise, and innocently looks at a magazine when Greenlee staggers out of the bedroom wearing a sleep mask, whining about the light and the racket, “Is the building being demolished?” Reggie shrugs he thinks some people are moving in next door, and she grumbles that they should be evicted immediately. Reggie stops her as she heads for coffee, saying he wants her to help him get Jack and Erica back together. Greenlee has more important things to do at Fusion, like jam the copier with paper clips! She goes to get dressed, and Bianca arrives. Reggie pulls her in and says he needs to talk to her! She realizes Reggie made up the part about her uncle being here, and protests she needs to talk to him about Lena. Reggie insists she can talk to him later; he needs her help with Greenlee! Greens comes out and shoves Reggie aside to get to the coffee.
