Krystal asks if Tad has lost his mind? What is he saying? Tad thinks they may have to consider the possibility that there's been a mistake. How can they really be sure Bianca's baby is the one that didn't survive when all they've got is Paul Cramer's word for it? They both know what that's worth, especially after everything that happened that night, the storm, the flood, the rescue, a helicopter crash! Cramer could easily have been in shock. The incubators looked exactly alike, and they weren't secure. What if he was confused about which baby was which? Krystal slaps him across the face and says she never thought he could sink this low! He's saying Bianca stole her own baby, which means Babe's little girl is dead. It's sick and it's twisted, and cruel as hell! Tad doesn't want to believe it, either, but she's the one that told him Paul Cramer was nothing if not a liar. What if he was completely freaked out about what was going to happen to him? What solid proof do they have that the baby he identified as Babe's isn't Bianca's? Krystal insists, even if Paul was messed up about the babies, a mother knows her own baby! Normally Tad would agree with her if Babe had been through a normal childbirth, but she wasn't. She was in a car accident, helped Bianca give birth, then went into labor herself, and nearly died from the infection that had her incoherent for the last few days! Krystal calls that the "Y" chromosome talking, "You show me a mother who does not know her own baby!" Tad agrees, exactly, "What if every single instinct Bianca has is telling her that baby is Miranda?" Horrified, Krystal asks if he hates her daughter so much that he's coming up with this crazy story to get rid of her? Tad doesn't hate anybody, and he's not trying to hurt her or Babe. Krystal asks why he can't let this go? Tad's sorry, but if this is even remotely the truth, then a lot of people deserve to know about it. Krystal can't believe he'd be so cruel to hurt the people he claims to care about! Tad asks if she doesn't think he's thought this out? He knows what kind of fallout this is going to create if he's right! What if the situations were reversed? What if somebody told Babe her baby had died and he said there had been a mistake, that there was a good chance Bess is alive, would she just walk away and leave well enough alone? If she thought there was the remotest chance her grandchild was alive, she'd move mountains to get to the truth! Krystal insists Babe's child survived, and Bianca's didn't. Her heart goes out to her, but those are the facts. She won't consider otherwise, and if he had an ounce of decency, he'd be out there looking for Bess instead of coming up with these disgusting theories. Tad says her fear doesn't allow her to turn her back on somebody else's pain. She shouts at him to shut up and get out of her way-she doesn't even want to know him anymore! As she jabs at the button for the elevator, she recalls Babe crying out in her delirium that her baby was dead. She gasps and turns to look at Tad; he asks what's wrong? Krystal covers by saying she has nothing to say to him, ever again! She storms off, and Tad sighs heavily. He runs into JR, who confides if he loses his little girl, he doesn't know how he could survive it.
A WOMAN ON THE EDGE
"What do you mean, you haven't called the police?" Adam demands. When Joe explains he is honoring Babe and JR's request, Adam declares they're wrong, "And so are you!" He snatches up a telephone to make the call, but Ryan comes up and grabs his hand.
Babe holds a stuffed lamb as she says her baby is out there, and she doesn't know if she can breathe again until they get her back. JR promises they'll get her back, and Babe says one thing she's sure of is that if she's not in their own arms, Bianca is her very next choice. She would never hurt their baby-doesn't he believe that with his whole soul? Bianca's going to treat their baby like her very own, just like they would if they had her little girl. Pretty soon, she'll realize she made a mistake, and she'll bring their little Bess back. She knows that with her whole heart, just like she knows that calling the police is the worst thing they can do. It will just scare Bianca to death, and she's already hurting so much from losing Miranda. JR agrees they'll wait a little while longer.
