THIS DIDN'T WORK!

Ryan demands to know if he heard right - Chris is pushing Kendall to break up with him? Chris says he just wants what's right for him; Ryan retorts that obviously Chris doesn't know what's right for him. He tells Chris he may have just found him but, if his dad doesn't stay out of this, he'll be sorry he ever found out about him! Stamp protests that he can't ignore what he's doing, but Ryan suggests he'd better try. Chris refuses to give Ryan up, especially after what they learned about his mother after all these years! Ryan insists Chris is just here because Erica can't stand Kendall, and he's trying to score points. He says Kendall is the only thing that matters to him, "That's why I asked her to marry me." Chris pleads with him to look at her history and her track record, "Look at the evidence against her!" When Ryan repeats that Kendall did not torch Erica's house, Chris begs him to wait until the trial is over to make his decision. Ryan coldly suggests that he run back to Erica and tell her this didn't work. Chris leaves without another word.

Ryan takes Kendall in his arms and says he's sorry about that. Kendall thinks he was wonderful, but she doesn't want to wreck his relationship with his father. Ryan shakes his head as he says of all the women in the world Chris could date, he has to pick her mom! Kendall tells him she's got to get out of here; she thinks she needs to be alone. When Ryan urges her not to let Chris get to him, Kendall says she'll just walk it off. She leaves, and Ryan looks after her for a moment. He takes something from the desk drawer, puts it in his pocket, and also leaves the room.

BARGAINING POWER….

"Feel better, slugger?" Roger asks. Simone says that he's hateful! She was taken in by him, and now he's threatening to tell her father and Greenlee - for what? "To strengthen my bargaining position," Roger sneers. Simone asks why he didn't just propose the book deal up front like a professional? She tearfully says she slept with him, and he doesn't give a damn about her; he's just on some sick power trip. Roger notes that she's an adult, and did everything she did of her own free will. Ms. Torres declares that she's finally going to do what's right. The smarmy Smythe calls after her not to be hasty! He curses, and hurries after her.

CATFIGHT ON THE CATWALK?

Greenlee speaks on the phone with her boss, saying he couldn't possibly be more upset over this than she is; didn't Casey explain that none of this was her fault? As she admits she was the one in those pictures, Mary whispers to her to say that she was set up. Greenlee repeats that she was set up, and of course she knows by whom - Kendall Hart; Enchantment is their competition! She knows that their station was left unattended at the bridal fair, but she'll make it up to this company if it takes the rest of her life! Greenlee promises not to make any statements outside the company, and thanks him. She hangs up and tells Mary that at least he didn't tell her to empty her desk. Mary suggests a restaurant for lunch, but Greenlee tells her she can't go to New York - she has to kill Kendall Hart! Mary reminds Greenlee that Simone is the cause of all the trouble she's having, but Greens defends her best friend. As she and her mother are arguing, Leo comes in the door. Greenlee throws herself into her fiancée's arms and exclaims, "Leo, thank god you're back!" Leo looks at his future mother-in-law and shakes his head as he asks, "Mary, Mary, Mary, what did you do now?"

Greenlee insists her mother is completely innocent, and Leo notes it's a natural mistake. Mary retorts it's understandable, given his experience with his own mother! Greenlee orders, "No Vanessa talk; Kendall is bad enough!" Leo asks what Kendall did, and Greenlee says she only attempted to destroy her life as they know it! She explains they ran into each other at the bridal fair; Kendall provoked her and she fell for it, "Voila, Catfight on the Catwalk!" Leo laughs as he asks if they actually duked it out? Mary says yes, he should have seen it; it was absolutely devastating! Greenlee explains that she was set up; Kendall was trying to humiliate her. She was in a beautiful wedding gown, and Kendall attacked her and ripped her dress. Mary pipes up that he should have seen how beautifully Greenlee defended herself! Greenlee insists it's revenge for what she's accomplished in this business, while all Kendall's accomplished in the same amount of time is burning her mother's house down. Leo begs his fiancée to remember what they talked about in their room in Paris, and not to let Kendall ruin things for them. Greenlee says he's right, Kendall's a pathetic nothing, "I have you, and we'll always have Paris!" She kisses him, and asks about the Count - what happened when he left Paris? Leo tells her they had the DNA test done. It will take a week or two, and then they'll know if Guy du Pres is his father. As Mary starts to ask about the Count, Simone bursts in the room and announces, "Greenlee, this can't wait any longer!"

Mary snipes that it's nice of her to drop by, and Simone says she had to run out of the bridal fair. Mary says yes, she did, and it was most unfortunate! Greenlee tells her about the fight, that photographs were delivered to the company, and because she left, their station was left unattended. When Simone tries to apologize, Greenlee says they've got to do damage control. Simone looks pained as she cries that she can't do this. Roger comes through the door and asks, "Simone, have you announced our news?" Mary rolls her eyes as Roger continues that they're all practically family here, and they can't keep it a secret much longer; they're writing a book, "The Proteus story from an insider, namely me." Leo tells Simone that was their book deal! Roger reminds him that he passed on it, "And I thought, what a waste!" Mary exclaims, "What a waste of cold, hard cash, right, Roger?" Roger tells her not to be like that! He hopes this won't disturb Greenlee, but this happened while they were planning an engagement party for her; he doesn't know who made the first move. Mary's money is on Roger! Simone starts to tell Greenlee she's sorry, she's been lying to her. Roger interrupts to say she feels guilty because this book deal is going to take her away from working with Greenlee. Ms. Smythe tells her friend she's happy for her, and grateful that she's taking on her dad! He needs someone who's experienced to take him through the publication process. She asks when Simone is leaving her? Roger answers that Simone will be leaving right after the wedding, and from that point on they'll be joined at the hip 24/7. "What an uncomfortable position!" Mary observes. Leo suggests that he and Greenlee take a break after the fight and this news, and they leave the office after Greens thanks Simone for telling her. Simone moves to make some calls, the damage control Greenlee spoke about, and Mary notices that she's no longer wearing the bracelet she was admiring earlier. "Did something happen to make you take it off?" Mary questions. When Simone says no, Mary leaves, telling them, "Ta-ta, you little bookworms!" Simone whirls to face Roger, and tells him she really, truly hates him! When he won't leave the office, she tries to. Roger grabs her arm and informs her this is no way to begin their working relationship, "We have got to get something straight, baby!"

Simone tells Roger to let go of her and stop torturing her! When Greenlee finds out about this, she will hate him. Roger admits he already suffers from that knowledge; that's why he's going to psychotherapy with her father. Simone insists her father will understand. Roger agrees he'll understand that she disappointed him again; the next time she screws up her life and calls Daddy for some bucks, he won't be so eager to fork it over! Simone glares at him, but backs down. Roger grins as he says he knew she'd listen to reason. Simone tells him she doesn't know how, but she swears he'll pay for this! She tries again to leave, but Roger stops her. As she shouts at him to never touch her again, Mary comes to the door and listens with interest.

Roger tells Simone not to be this way! Simone says she means it, "Keep away from me!" She leaves, visibly upset, and Mary confronts Roger. She says he and Simone make a very interesting couple. Roger asks what her plans are after the wedding, and her father's waterfall of cash dwindles to droplets? He laughs when she says some of us care about more than money, and asks who that would be? Since when is she such a devoted mother? Mary asks if he realizes Greenlee is totally in love with that young man? Maybe if they had shared a similar experience, things could have been different for them. Roger notes that these bouts of enlightenment always seem to fall around trust fund disbursement time, and always prove to be temporary. "Good luck playing Mommy Dearest!" he says as he leaves.

GORGEOUS BUT IMPRACTICAL….

Erica is looking at blueprints when Aidan accidentally jostles the waiter's arm, spilling water all over the table. Apologies are made, and the waiter hurries to get another tablecloth. Aidan helps Erica dry the papers, and sees what she's looking at. "This will never work!" he exclaims. Surprised, Erica asks what won't work? Aidan tells her it's the wall of windows, but she probably knows that already; it can be built, but it won't stand up for the long haul - it needs more support. Intrigued, Erica asks if he's an architect? Aidan says no, but he is familiar with that sort of thing, "Gorgeous, but impractical." Erica wonders where he's from, and Aidan tells her England. Ms. Kane wonders if he's visiting or a recent transplant? Aidan says that's yet to be determined; he came to see family, but that's turned out to be a bit more complicated than he anticipated. Erica smiles as she says in her experience, family is always complicated. They chat briefly about the plans, and Erica says they could use someone like him to make sure they are executed properly. When she asks his name, the surprise is evident on her face when he tells her, "Aidan, Aidan Devane."

Surprised, Erica asks if he's Anna Devane's nephew? She never heard Anna, or even Alex, for that matter, mention having a nephew. Aidan says that his arrival was a surprise, and Erica expresses her hope that it was a pleasant one. She asks him to sit down, and wonders how he knows so much about architecture? Aidan explains that he can read blueprints, and construction is one of his fields; he'd run those plans by some engineers before they start construction! Erica agrees that she certainly will. She asks, if he does stay in Pine Valley, would he come aboard on this project? Aidan suggests that he figure out what he's doing and contact her. He says he's got to meet his aunt, and Erica asks that he please get in touch.

Chris comes into the dining room and kisses Erica. He says that he found her; it's the first thing that's gone right all day. Erica starts telling him about Aidan, but realizes something's wrong. Chris tells her he's afraid he's losing his son to Kendall, and there isn't a damn thing he can do to stop it. He complains that it's not like he's picking out a card; Ryan can't expect him to choose between him and Erica. They just started making some terrific headway, and now it could be over. Erica says Ryan is snowed right now, but it won't last; before long he's going to realize that Kendall used him just like she used everybody else. Chris laments that Ryan can't see that he'll never have a meaningful relationship with her, "It's me and his mother all over again." He says it took him ages to get over Gail, and when he did he was lucky - he found her and fell in love again. Erica asks if he's ever had any second thoughts? Does he think it's possible that Kendall wasn't the one that set the fire? Chris looks at her in surprise, and asks where these doubts are coming from? Jackson's built a case, and it's going to stand. This time Kendall is going to pay for what she's done. Erica thinks back to the fire, prompting Chris to ask if she's all right?

Chris says that Ryan's the caretaker type, probably because of that abusive creep that raised him. The attorney for Gail's estate told him that Ryan was sending her checks and writing to her up until she died. Erica says that Ryan is very loyal, and Chris agrees that he has a need to take care of Kendall and protect her. What if he doesn't break the pattern? What if he never catches on? Chris notices that Erica's attention is elsewhere, and asks if this has to do with Kendall and the trial? Erica only says that he's a great father, but Chris says he can't get his own son away from the woman who's going to ruin his life. Erica admits there is something wrong. She has a splitting headache, and is going to get some aspirin. She leaves, telling him not to worry about her. (I didn't think Erica took aspirin!)

EVERY WOMAN'S FANTASY….

Anna tells David he can't seriously expect her to hand him her heart - he doesn't know how to take care of it! When David declares that he's given more of himself to her than anyone on this planet, Anna wonders, "Really, anyone?" "You're damned right," he tells her, "Anyone!" He kisses her, and Anna responds. David moves toward the bed, but Anna stops him. David repeats that she knows how he feels, but Ms. Devane thinks he just proved her point about what's wrong with them! They fight, then they kiss, then they go to bed, and it's never worked for them. Hayward laughs as he says she could have fooled him! Anna insists this is their pattern, and nothing ever changes; David is equally insistent that it does work for them, and she knows it. Anna argues that it's a diversion; the next day he's out again evading the truth and risking his life. "Risking my life?" David laughs, "That's very interesting coming from you, Chief Devane!" Anna stands up and says she's going to be smart this time - she's not going to set herself up to have her whole life blow up in her face a second time. David asks if she will please stop overreacting? "Tell me, what the hell is it that you want from me?" he questions.

Anna protests that she shouldn't have to tell him what to do. David asks if that isn't every woman's fantasy, having some confused man asking the woman he loves for direction? Anna starts to leave, saying this is an exercise in futility. David stops her, insisting it's more than that. He thinks it's ironic that she's creating this fight hours before they're supposed to go to the Day of Compassion ceremony, a ceremony that he knows is extremely meaningful for her because her daughter is HIV positive! Anna shouts at him not to dare using Robin or her personal struggle for his purposes. As she starts for the open door, Aidan comes in. "Oh great, reinforcements!" David groans.

Aidan asks if Anna's okay? David points out that Anna's his wife, and next time she has a problem, he'll take care of her. Anna suggests they continue this later, after dinner. She asks if he and Aidan can't just start over? She and Aidan are going to have dinner together; she thought he was busy, but if he's free…. David laughs as he says communication is important in marriage. He knows Anna is very busy, so sometimes details escape her. He reminds her he's on sabbatical because of his hand - he can't operate. Anna says she's sorry, she forgot, but would he like to join them? David says he's got things to take care of, but she should have a good time with her nephew. Anna and Aidan leave, and David gets a phone call. "What?" he asks, "Say that again." He listens for a moment and says no, "I said no, damn it, don't tell Tad! I'll take care of it, all right?" He hangs up and sits down, obviously deep in thought.

Anna and Aidan go down to the dining room, and Anna tells her nephew he really doesn't have to dislike David so much, "You don't know him well enough to hate him yet." She asks how Aidan's room is, and he tells her his bags are still at the front desk; he doesn't want to stay here on her money. Anna insists he's family, and it's more convenient if he stays here at the Valley Inn. Aidan admits he doesn't want to get between her and David. He doesn't trust David as far as he can throw him, and seeing more of him is not going to change a thing. Anna understands why Aidan wouldn't be impressed with David, and explains that he's having these serious problems right now. Despite everything he's seen and heard, they are working on their marriage. She breaks off as David comes up to the table, and asks if he changed his mind about dinner? David tells her he can't. He has to leave town; it's a medical emergency, and they'll talk when he gets back.

ROUND TWO….

Kendall walks into the park, obviously very upset. It doesn't help when she turns to find Greenlee there as well. "Get out of my sight now!" Greenlee hisses, "I've had enough for a lifetime!" Kendall says she doesn't take orders from her, prompting Ms. Smythe to warn, "Don't make me hurt you!" Kendall defiantly tells her to bring it on, "Show me what you've got." As the Battle of the Brides, Redux, is about to start, Leo and Ryan come in to the park and race to stop Round Two.

Each man holds his struggling fiancée under an arm, and Greenlee tells Leo that Ryan is doomed; he and Kendall are engaged. (This was hilarious!) Leo tucks Greenlee under his arm and holds out his other hand as he says, "Congratulations, man!" Ryan also tucks Kendall away, and they shake hands. The women continue to yell at each other until Leo suggests they give Pine Valley something they'll never forget, "How about a double wedding?"

The women continue to hurl insults at one another, and Ryan says he thinks the double wedding is out! But, he'd love it if Leo would be his best man. Leo agrees, saying he can't return the favor - he's already asked David to stand up for him. Ryan says that's fine; he's just glad to have Leo on board. Leo asks Kendall if she's okay with that, and Ms. Hart declares that Greenlee isn't coming within fifty miles of her on her wedding day! Ryan warns that they're not always going to be around to keep these two kids apart on the playground, and Leo insists Greenlee congratulate Ryan. Ms. Smythe says she'd rather stick knitting needles in her eyes, which Kendall agrees would be her choice, too. The guys shake hands and agree to call each other, and Leo takes Greenlee back to work. Ryan tells Kendall she really knows how to show a guy a good time! Kendall asks what he meant when he told Leo they had business here, and Ryan thinks he'd better wait until she's in a better mood; this is the wrong time. "Oh god!" she exclaims, "You're calling it off!"

Ryan asks if she wasn't here when he asked Leo to be his best man? Why would he say that if he wanted to bail out on her? He says she's astoundingly, incredibly dumb! He gets down on one knee and says he's not leaving her, not now, and not ever. He wanted to make a proposal in someplace more romantic than a cemetery, but guesses this will have to do. Ryan takes the ring from his pocket and says this is for her. Chris gave it to his mother; it was supposed to mean something special and sacred between them, but it never could, and he wants to give it a second chance like they have, "So, officially, Kendall Hart, will you marry me?" Kendall cries as she says yes, and Ryan slips the ring on her finger. It fits perfectly, and they kiss to seal the deal.

JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR….

Mary makes a phone call, and says the photographs were wonderful - they accomplished just what she was looking for. He knows how much she admires his work, and next time she'll give him credit galore - but this time he's got to remain nameless. She says she's glad he understands, and hangs up. Greenlee comes back to her office and asks if that was her boss? Mary says no, she just had to cancel dinner with a friend; she kisses Greenlee and leaves. Greenlee tells Leo this day has been a complete and utter disaster! Leo touches the necklace he gave her in Paris, and reminds her to think about tomorrow, and how great their life is going to be together. They kiss as Greenlee says he makes everything right for her.

Quote of the Day:

Roger: "Simone and I are writing a book!"

Mary: "A book! Simone and, who are you supposed to be, darling, Shuster?"

OBSERVATION OF THE DAY:

I've read that Roger was leaving Pine Valley in a dramatic fashion - could Simone's promise to make him pay portend Roger's demise? Will Dr. McMillan pay for a defense lawyer for his daughter? If not, we should take up a collection!--Karen

Wouldn't it be great if the medical emergency that David left town for was that Dixie's baby survived?  A daughter for Tad! I know, I know, wishful thinking.--Gloria

Next on All My Children:

Liza learns that Adam and Mia have been discussing her behind her back.

Mia tells Jake she can't hate Adam - she happens to love the man!

Kendall hears Bianca tell Chris she will take the stand and lie that she saw her sister set that fire!
