The 1997 Emmy Award Nominations

Dateline: 04/06/97

The Emmy nominations were announced on Wednesday, April 2, 1997 during the 8:30 a.m. half hour of ABC's Good Morning America. The list of hopefuls is convincing and familiar, and not too surprising.

Our favorite ABC's daytime drama, All My Children captured nine Emmy nominations:

Outstanding Drama Series
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series - Susan Lucci (Erica Kane)
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series - David Canary (Adam Chandler/Stuart Chandler)
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series - Eva LaRue Callahan (Maria Santos Grey)
Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team
Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team
Outstanding Multiple Camera Editing for a Drama Series
Outstanding Live and Direct to Tape Sound Mixing for a Drama Series
Outstanding Costume Design for a Drama Series

Kudos to Susan Lucci who picked up another Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress. This will make 17 nominations to her credit, but she has yet to win the coveted award. There are only other three (instead of the usual four) actresses nominated that she will compete against, hopefully, this will be in her favor.

The awards program will be shown one hour earlier--at 8 pm (ET). No purpose was given for the earlier broadcast change. This will mean that the events (cocktail party, dinner, the parade of personalities through New York City) will have to begin earlier, during rush hour. The awards will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 1997 at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. If you are interested, tickets are on sale at the Radio City box office and through Ticketmaster. The prices are as follows: orchestra: $110; first mezzanine, $85; second mezzanine, $55; third mezzanine, $45. There is a six ticket per person limit.

Beauty tips: After viewing episodes of her teenage years (adolescent acne - or was it my television?), Susan Lucci certainly looks great now! She still has great hair and probably is still in the single digit dress size!

This week on AMC:

What strength--Hayley actually admitted to sleeping with that ugly, despicable, dishonest, immoral Tanner. It's been a while since there was a knock down, drag out fight on AMC--in this case, I advocate violence. Just in case you haven't grasp my feelings--I hate Tanner!!!! Mateo is the greatest (albeit short) guy in the whole world. He's worried about what his dead father will say about this whole thing. He also doesn't want to share the reason for calling off the wedding, he would never reveal to anyone their dirty laundry. I was happy that he had a chat with Maria about infidelity. Hayley is always ready to blame herself, grow up, please - isn't she the CEO of a huge corporation?

Liza is trying to just play--she is just kidding herself, she won't be able to do it - she needs power and control. Going off to play with Jake seems attractive, but not for long, I'll believe when I see it. Adam truly is someone that could hold her interest, especially since a roll in the hay with a younger man would only be short-lived. Liza told Adam that she agreed to the divorce--surprise! Adam take the offer back and this drove Liza crazy. She wanted the upper hand, and as long as it was she who made the decision and she still got a fine settlement, she would be happy. Marian tried to tell Jake that it would never work. Jake finally gave her an ultimatum: he or Adam.

Brooke and Trevor plan to go to Central America to find Pierce's daughter.

Gloria accepted Tad's marriage proposal--who wouldn't--I'd take a chance that Tad would remain true, for a while at least.

Erica threw Janet and Skye out of her home. Erica told Esther some lame story about an abusive Dimitri to keep her from spilling the real story. Dimitri told Erica that Sonya would keep them together--no go with Erica. I wish I knew what they had in mind for Erica--I'm a big fan of hers. I don't want them to make me hate her for this storyline. Edmund can't believe that Erica was really able to adopt a baby that quickly--speaks with Jack about his suspicions.

Coming soon, test your AMC I.Q! Recognition of the AMC's Top Ten Scholars will be given. We'll have some great fun with this!
