The 27th Daytime Emmy Awards
Susan Lucci hosts!

The 27th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards was held at the Radio City Music Hall on Friday, May 19 from 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET on ABC Television. The Emmy awards are based on the nominees' performances January 1, 1999 to December 31, 1999.

With great pleasure, our own diva of All My Children, Susan Lucci hosted this sparkling and well-attended event.  Rosie O'Donnell introduced Ms. Lucci with a replay of Shemar Moore's famous "The Streak is Over" announcement of last year when Susan finally won the coveted Emmy after 19 nominations.  It is not likely any of Ms. Lucci's fans will forget that infamous evening.  A great clip of Ms. Lucci's admiration of her Emmy was spoofed when she carried it with her to the market, the hairdresser, and even President Clinton got in the act!  This year, we are graced with Susan's successful effort to host this enjoyable evening.  Susan Lucci arrived on a larger than life statue of the Emmy to a standing ovation of her peers, co-workers, and fans in the audience.  She was gorgeous as always in her lovely white spaghetti strap gown and as she welcomed everyone, she tried to make light of her winning the Emmy as though it were "not that important."

After the awards were given for the Outstanding Supporting Actress to Sarah Brown (Carly, General Hospital) and Outstanding Supporting Actor to Shemar Moore (Malcolm, The Young And The Restless), Ms. Lucci changed into a gorgeous red low-scooped gown to introduce the stars of The View that summarized a small clip from nearly every daytime, talk show, and game show that was on television.  All My Children garnered a few clips, one with Erica Kane primping with her perfume, Liza setting Leo up for blackmail, Tad punching Adam, Alex, in hatred, shoved Edmund on the beach, Adam's sinister grin, a brief scene with Tad and Dixie in her wedding dress, Hayley and Ryan kiss on the beach, Jack's dip of Opal while dancing, Gillian and Ryan's first love scene, Scott and Becca's first kiss, and Erica with David--just enough to try to win viewers to come watch us.

Next, Ms. Lucci had the great pleasure to introduce her fellow co-workers as presenters, Kelly Ripa (Hayley Vaughan) and her real-life husband, Mark Consuelos (Mateo Santos).  Kelly wore this gorgeous backless pantsuit, which was white at the shoulders and gradually turned to bright pink at her toes with shimmering touches.  Kelly also had her hair in luscious curls and Mark was dressed to the hilt. They introduced the winner of the Outstanding Talk Show Host, Rosie O'Donnell, which was her fourth win out of four nominations.

Linda Dano was up next to tell us all about the four programs that were up for Outstanding Daytime Drama.  Ms. Dano introduced our favorite soap opera, All My Children with the comment that we have been nominated for our 25th consecutive nomination this year.  Read about the highlighted clips that were used to warrant AMC an Emmy nomination here.

All My Children was then honored with clips of their acceptance of the Emmy for the Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design Award and the Hairstyling in a Drama Series Emmy that was presented at an earlier taped event. These were the only two Emmys awarded to our favorite soap opera, All My Children for 1999-2000.

The Disney commercial was a hit in my book--black and white spots of a few famous stars taking pot shots at Mickey Mouse.  Susan Lucci a.k.a. Erica Kane implied she thought scheming, conniving, and backstabbing were fun but since Mickey doesn't do those things, he must have fun in another way!  Regis Philbin, Drew Carey, and Judge Judy also had something to say about the "boss."

Susan Lucci changed into a great form-fitting sleek black dress, the sides of her hair scooped up on the top, looking gorgeous as always.  It was with great pride and pleasure that Ms. Lucci was able to introduce her daughter, Liza Huber, along with Alex Trebek as the presenters for the Outstanding Talk Show. Liza and Susan hugged each other, which will remain a life-long memory for both.

Ms. Lucci then had the great pleasure to introduce her colleagues, John Callahan (Edmund Grey), Finola Hughes (Alexandra Marick), and Vincent Irizarry (Dr. David Hayward) as presenters of the Outstanding Writing Team for a Daytime Drama Series.  Ms. Hughes wore a great black strapless dress with a matching small black scarf around her neck.  The guys in the tuxedos outdid themselves.  In case you were wondering, The Young and Restless won--what are they doing right and that AMC isn't?

Linda Dano (Rae Cummings) was the presenter for the Outstanding Drama Series and introduced them throughout the evening.  Ms. Dano wore a great sparkling silver outfit that reminded you a little of a spacesuit, but, hey, she looked great.

I cannot continue my comments without mentioning that Regis Philbin did not receive an Emmy for his performance as the Outstanding Game Show Host.  What, where, when, how, and who are the judges?  They really missed the boat on making decisions this year.  What a snub!  And why?

Although I am happy for Anthony Geary (Luke, General Hospital) who he won the Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, I thought our own David Canary (Adam and Stuart Chandler) did a superb job all year and I recognize his wonderful talent and he gets my praise!

On a side note, Winsor Harmon (ex-Del Henry) was one of the presenters (I miss him, I'm probably in the minority here) for the Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, which we should be proud that Finola Hughes (Alexandra Marick) was nominated.  I am also happy that Susan Flannery (Stephanie Forrester, The Bold and the Beautiful) won, let's push for Ms. Hughes for next year, she is doing a fabulous job.

Ms. Lucci then had the privilege of presenting the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series that went to General Hospital! The program has won more Emmys in this category than any other program. Congrats to all!

Susan Lucci said good night and that was a wrap!
