The 1997 Daytime Emmy Results
Dateline: 05/25/97
Well, the results are in. The major disappointment this year is that Susan Lucci was denied the coveted award once again. Enough said, I will not beat a dead horse. This classy lady did an excellent job as co-host in that gorgeous red dress - not many of us would look that great. And, of course, her co-host, Regis Philbin, certainly said La Lucci enough to last a lifetime. I thought the evening went well, I enjoyed Regis and Susan as they joked about being nominated and never winning (I still hoped for each of them all evening).
The 24th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards was broadcast on ABC this year, but they only took home three Emmys.
- Outstanding Writing Team (tie) for AMC & Y&R
- Sarah Brown for Outstanding Younger Actress for General Hospital
- Outstanding Drama Series for General Hospital
Michael E. Knight (Tad), Michael Lowry (Jake), and Marcy Walker (Liza) announced the previously awarded outstanding game show which was The Price is Right. They also presented the award for the Game Show Host, the winner was Pat Sajak. Marcy wore a very low cut, long-sleeved black gown, very simple and elegant.
Four dramas were nominated for outstanding drama series and each were introduced by a well-known fan. AMC was introduced by Reba McIntyre. Celebrated moments that depicted AMC's best were:
- Edmund and Maria in a passionate kiss
- Poignant moment with Myrtle Fargate in tears
- Bobby and Anita kissing in prom clothes
- Hayley and Mateo (minus a shirt) kissing
- Gloria and Tad kissing
- Dixie leaving Tad for the last time
- Julia and Noah dancing in costume
- Dimitri and Erica kissing at New Year's Eve
- Liza looking pensively all alone
- Michael Delaney admitting his sexuality
- Janet waking in awe at the splendor of Lyndon House
- Brooke consoling Laura
- Maria watching as Edmund plays with Sammy
- Jake and Liza at the tree of lights
- Dimitri and Maria after they did the deed
- Bianca accidentally pushes Jonathan Kinder down the stairs
- Janet helping Amanda at the well
- Adam's surprised face as he was married to Liza
- Phoebe with fancy teddy
- Trevor finally standing after emotional paralyses
- Brooke and Tad watching as Adam and Liza are married
- Maria and Edmund in bed after he's forgiven her
- Erica and Dimitri by the fireside
Quite an impressive group of clips, lots of love, kissing, and special moments of AMC.
John Callahan (Edmund) and Julia Barr (Brooke) presented the Outstanding Writing Team Award which was a tie between AMC and Y&R. Accepting for AMC was creator, Agnes Nixon and music started playing during her acceptance speech. I, personally, thought it was very rude and unforgiving (but who am I?), I guess time is money. Julia also wore a low cut black gown. Later, Erica changed into a long white strapless gown with a diamond necklace to die for, to complete the rest of the evening.
Last week, I wrote you about the first-time ever webcast of "The Emmys on the Internet." Unfortunately, it was a bust, a complete disaster, I'm sorry that I lead you in that direction. The company hired to run the webcast needed at least a week to set it up, they were only allowed two days. Union workers were needed to be present during set-up, since they were not required to work they didn't come except a few hours at a time. With only a few hours to complete this, and after being allowed to only come in at 6:30 p.m., it took until almost 9:15 p.m. to get up and running. NATAS will supposedly have archived transcripts, audio clips, and video clips accessible on its site for the next six months.
This week on AMC:
- Tanner died in the hospital on Monday. (Hooray for all good things.)
- Mateo found Hayley in the cave.
- Mateo asked Hayley to marry him.
- Erica claimed that Esther was Sonya's mother.
- Stuart befriended Esther (a romance???).
- Erica has nightmares about her keeping Sonya away from Maria.
- Erica tried to quit WRCW, Dimitri said "You belong to me!" (meaning WRCW).
- Pierce made arrangements to go to Central America in search of Amelia.
- Christina received a death threat - Brooke invited Christina to stay with her.
- Janet comforted Trevor as he shared his concern with Janet about Hayley.
- Trevor sees Dimitri and Janet having a drink together, may be jealous????
- Scott and Laura are planning an all-niter for the prom.
- Maria may take a leave of absence.
- Erica referred to Maria and Edmund's baby as "her." OOPS!
- Tad did a cooking demonstration, a ridiculous clip but entertaining!
- Jack and Janet made a date for the "Couple of the Year" award gala.
