NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS…

Lily worriedly asks Jack where Erica is? They have to find her and hide her to keep her safe! Erica comes out of her dressing room in time to hear Jack ask why, and Lily say everyone hates her—they keep hoping she’ll break her leg! Erica explains in her business, people don’t wish you good luck, they tell you “Break a leg.” Jack laughs as he agrees, “No business like show business!” Lily doesn’t understand they don’t tell you to break an arm, and Erica tells her it’s tradition. Lily shrugs, “Well, okay, in that case, I hope you break both your legs.”

Josh cues the intro for “New Beginnings”, and the location shots appear. Among the celebrities congratulating Erica and offering their good wishes on her show’s debut are Regis Philbin, Whoopi Goldberg, Clay Aiken, the ladies of “The View”, New York Yankees pitcher Al Leiter, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, former New York City Mayors Ed Koch, Rudy Guiliani and David Dinkins, Joel Siegel, and rapper Doug E. Fresh. The show’s theme plays as, in New York, Erica gets out of a cab topped by an advertisement for “New Beginnings”. In the studio, the announcer introduces the one and only embodiment of “New Beginnings”, Erica Kane. With Jack and Lily smiling proudly from the front row, Erica thanks her audience on the set of “New Beginnings”.

Erica says that so many of her friends in entertainment, sports and even politics have helped make this show possible, and they’ll meet them in a few minutes. They all are unique, yet have certain traits in common; they all had dreams, and the courage to follow them. So, she decided to dedicate her first show to the place where she went for her first re-creation, a place where anyone can have a new beginning, the fabulous city of New York! She kicks it off with a visit to NASDAQ, located in the crossroads of America, Times Square. Maribel Aber, Vice President of the NASDAQ stock market, greets her, and congratulates her on her big moment, the electronic display, seven stories high, welcoming Erica and “New Beginnings”—she has arrived! Ms. Aber introduces Erica, and Ms. Kane has the privilege of ringing the bell to open the market, and her show.

From NASDAQ, Erica goes to interview the man called the Mayor of America, and shares that she’s very excited Mayor Rudolph Guiliani has agreed to be on their show. She greets him at his current business, saying she felt nothing better embodies new beginnings than the city of New York, and he had everything to do with that, from the first day of his administration and certainly after 9/11. He led the city so bravely, with such clear thought and courage, and she thanks him so much. The former mayor feels the city offers a new beginning for everyone, adding if the world has a center, Times Square is that center. After 9/11, people came here from all over the country; they supported them, and made them feel they weren’t alone. Erica congratulates him on his own new beginning, Guiliani Partners, and thanks him so much for taking the time to appear on the show. In turn, the mayor thanks Erica for highlighting New York. The segment ends to cheers and applause, and Erica beams at Jack and Lily.

Erica tells her audience now is the time to make their childhood dreams come true, unless, like her, they started early. When she was a girl growing up, she dreamed of starting over, and starting big. She knew her new beginning wasn’t going to happen in Pine Valley, so she hopped on a train, next stop, Manhattan! Calling rush hour in the city an adventure in itself, her next interview is with Wayne Ehmann, Chief Architect of Grand Central Station’s terminal renovation. He explains that the terminal has been restored back to its original grandeur; she’s seeing it now like it was in 1913, and adds that Jackie Kennedy helped fight the fight to save the building and give it landmark status. He points out the glass walkways of the city within a city, and Erica wants to check out the jewelry shops!
