From Karen Watkins, for About.com

Di is sorry; she was just trying to overcompensate for her résumé because she wants the job so badly. Greg’s afraid if she cannot come clean with him, she’s wasting his time and her own. He agrees when she says his work here is delicate and requires loyalty, absolute secrecy, saying they have confidentiality agreements. When she says her discretion is, uh, state certified, Greg asks if she worked for the government? It doesn't say that on her application. Di says no, she recently did a year in prison for refusing to testify to a grand jury. Greg declares he cannot and will not hire an ex-con! Di explains she didn't commit a crime, it was contempt of court. Her loyalty and discretion landed her a year in jail. So, that's why she doesn’t have any references; she’s just come to town to start over. Greg repeats there’s nothing he can do for her, but Di persists, saying women come here every day to make important, personal decisions. Their business is their own, as it should be, and they need their full support and privacy. As her past has shown, she strongly believes in privacy. Greg admits she makes a valid point, and Di insists she would be excellent at this job. Give her a probation period if he has to, just try her, “You won’t regret it.”

YOU MIGHT BE JUST WHAT I NEED…

Amanda comes to “New Beginnings as Josh is ending a call with a network executive, saying Miss Kane is very excited that he’s flying in to meet with her; as soon as she checks in, they’ll set up a meeting. He hangs up and Amanda demands he pick a side—he doesn’t think she poisoned the Chandlers, does he? Josh asks where this is coming from, and she admits she had another blackout or something, like the one at Thanksgiving. Josh is sorry, but wonders why she’s coming to him instead of the hospital, “I’d offer to play doctor, but I’m a little busy.” Amanda explains if she keeps going to the hospital, it’s going to get around town faster than someone turning back from the dead. Josh asks why she cares? Did she do something she regrets? Amanda wishes she could tell him either way. She had this complete blowout with Babe, and she doesn’t remember anything after that—it’s a complete blank! Josh asks if she wants his help in case she caused some mayhem. Amanda asks if he’s heard of anything horrible or unexplained happening today? Josh says no, he hasn’t heard anything that she’s done, no toxic soup alerts. Amanda notes he still hasn’t answered her question. He doesn’t think she poisoned the Chandler Thanksgiving? He honestly doesn’t believe she’d do something that nuts, right? Josh realizes she really doesn’t know what she’s doing half the time, does she? Amanda admits she doesn’t have a clue, and it’s kind of scary. Josh thinks she did the right thing by coming to him, and he’s going to help her; her biggest problem is she spends too much time hitting the town alone. Amanda points out, in case he hasn’t noticed, she hasn’t exactly been winning any popularity contests. Josh goes on that her day needs structure, a place to go where people stop her from wandering off. Amanda grimaces school's not really doing it for her. Josh means a job; it’ll give her a new life so she can stop leeching off people. Amanda admits she does need cash to pay Myrtle's rent since the Jamie gravy train kind of left the station. Josh tells her this isn’t about money but about structure, about being able to depend on people, and vice versa. Amanda thinks anything's better than moving back home. The last thing she needs is her mother! Josh tells her, “I just so happen to need an assistant. The job is yours if you want it.” Amanda tells him to hold on! He’s already called out her no TV experience, and made it more than obvious he doesn’t trust her. Josh insists he’s got something special in mind, and she’ll be fine. Can she answer phones and at least pretend to be nice? Does she know the alphabet? He’s confident she’ll come through for him. Amanda wonders why he’s being so nice to her? He has a crush on Babe, and she hates her! Josh notes just because he wants to sleep with Babe doesn't mean he’s in love with her, and he hates J.R. almost as much as she does. All he cares about is making "New Beginnings" a hit. It's in everyone's best interests, “Do you want to be a part of this?” Amanda thinks she would be perfect for this job. Josh goes on that he requires absolute loyalty and confidentiality. There's stuff around here that can't leak to the press before air. Does she think she can keep her mouth shut? Amanda agrees he can count on complete and total silence. Josh warns that Miss Kane is very strict about being on time and being professional. Anything she does, says, or wears around here represents her. Amanda swears she will do anything he needs. She promises she won’t screw this up if he’ll just give her a chance. Josh smiles she might be just what he needs.
