YOU’RE NOT HER…

Amanda walks through the woods, and sinks down on a rock with a sigh. A man calls out, “You’re here!” Startled, Amanda jumps up and asks, “Hello? Who’s there? Where are you?” She screams when Jonathan jumps down from the tree house holding a bouquet of lillies. Jonathan apologizes, he didn’t mean to scare her, but he thought she was someone else; he thought she was his girlfriend. This is their spot. Did her dad send her here? He doesn’t want them to be together. Amanda tells him she was just taking a walk, and didn’t know the sky was falling. Jonathan explains he came from the tree house, but it’s going to get torn down soon. Amanda asks if he built that, and he agrees, it’s their special place. When he heard her coming, he thought she’d come back… He’s sorry, again, and he’ll leave her alone now. Amanda tells him to wait, there’s something she needs to tell him. Surprised, Jonathan asks what she could possibly have to say to him? Amanda says she wants to apologize. Her mother did some really horrible things. Jonathan agrees she wanted to make him think he was crazy, but Amanda says her mother was the crazy one, and she helped her cover everything she did. Like in the jail, when she told everyone he had imagined her; they both made him look really bad, and she’s sorry. Because of her, people held him responsible, and she doesn’t blame him if he hates her. Jonathan says he doesn’t hate her. He knows what it’s like to be hated, and he would never… It’s horrible! Amanda asks if there’s anyone she can talk to, to change their mind about him, but Jonathan says it doesn’t matter, it won’t change anything. Amanda says if there’s ever anything she can do, let her know. Jonathan thanks her and starts to walk away, but stops and says there is something she can help him do. He holds out the bouquet of flowers and asks if she’ll go out with him? Taken aback, Amanda asks if he means as in dinner and a movie out, or he’s going to get back at her for everything she did to him out? She’s just not getting this! When Jonathan says she could start by taking the flowers, Amanda asks why? He already has a girlfriend! Jonathan says no, not really, anymore. They still like each other a lot, but she’s not allowed to see him. Amanda’s sorry, but she just doesn’t see how she can be a winner in this. Jonathan explains that Aidan said he should date other people, so he was thinking they could go on a date. Amanda says sure, he did give her flowers, so they can go out. Whenever he wants, give her a call. Jonathan suggests now, and she agrees, “Why not? No one’s beating down my door.” So, where does he want to go? A movie, or BJ’s? Jonathan looks up at the tree house as he says here, “That’s where I go on dates.”

As they settle into the tree house, Amanda says it’s pretty high up, maybe 15 or 20 feet? Jonathan tells her it’s 228¼ inches; his girlfriend is really good at measuring. Amanda notes when you pull that ladder up, people wouldn’t even know you’re here. Jonathan agrees that’s the best part; when you’re up here, it’s a secret. Does she want to play chess, please? His girlfriend is really good at chess, and he’s trying to get better. Amanda admits she doesn’t know how to play, and Jonathan says just so she knows the rules from the top, they’re supposed to agree to disagree. They can still be boyfriend and girlfriend and disagree without arguing. Amanda tells him to back the truck up! This is just a casual… Jonathan goes on that she’s supposed to finish his sentences without him saying it. That way, they know they’re best friends. What’s her favorite color? When Amanda says red, Jonathan sighs that doesn’t work at all. Amanda’s sorry, she’s really trying, but she doesn’t understand anything he’s saying. Jonathan sighs she doesn’t know him at all. This isn’t going to work, “You’re not her.” Amanda gently says maybe she should go. Jonathan tells her she’s very pretty; she’s just like the girls he used to date, but he wasn’t very good to his girlfriends back then. Lily’s different. She makes him a better person. Now Jack’s going to tear down their tree house and he doesn’t want him to see her; he doesn’t know what he’s going to do. Amanda asks if he’s talking about Lily Montgomery?
