Di says if she told him it was a matter of life and death… The man tells them to go through that door, down the corridor, and follow the signs to the terminal. Jamie reaches in his pocket as he says he’s sorry, he has one more photo he needs him to look at. He hands the man a picture of Tad and asks, “If you were working June 5th, did you see him?”

SOMETIMES WE THINK WE KNOW SOMETHING…

At Fusion, Simone, Dani and Erin watch the news report that the trial of the alleged coffin murderers will get underway in a matter of minutes. As the reporter goes on that the victim, Dr. Gregory Madden, was an internationally respected fertility specialist, images of Greg’s appearance on “New Beginnings” and his on-air attack flash on the screen. Simone sighs, “Oh, my god, let the mudslinging begin. You think they’re going to cut to Kendall marching up the courthouse steps?” Kendall comes into the office and says no, because she’s where she’s supposed to be, work, “Zach Slater doesn’t concern me anymore.” There's a trial. Zach and Dixie are the defendants. It doesn't mean that they just stop doing what they need to do, their jobs. They have to figure out the holiday gift packaging, and the Christmas wrapping… Simone says they know she is dying inside, but Kendall insists life goes on. “While Zach’s fighting for his,” Dani notes, and Erin quickly says she didn’t mean that. Kendall insists she did mean that! She’s not some traumatized woman who doesn't know what she's saying or how she feels. She holds up her hand and asks if these rings confuse them? They’re habit, it’s not out of sentiment. The others gasp as she takes off the rings and throws them in the trash, asking if that’s clear enough? Zach did not care about their marriage, he didn't care about her. He was too busy worrying about his savior complex, trying to be a hero for Dixie. She declares, “You know what? Consider this an official memo—Zach Slater is not a subject for discussion in this office. I don't want to hear about the trial. I don't want to hear what your thoughts and opinions are. Do not even say his name.” Myrtle comes in and says, “Zach Slater! I didn't hear the memo. Honey, fish the rings out of the trash and come on over here. You can’t fire me, darling.”

As Kendall holds the rings in her hand, Myrtle tells her to put them on and go on to where she should be, court. Kendall tells her she doesn’t want to be there, and Myrtle sighs she warned him. Kendall asks, “Zach? About what?” Myrtle tells her that, more often than not, a good-looking face hides a very, very strong mind, “Now, Zach did not bury that doctor. So go on. Off you go, to the court.” Kendall asks what makes her so sure that he didn't do it? “Darling, Zach told me,” Myrtle replies. Kendall asks if she’s taking it on blind faith? Myrtle chuckles as she says no. She knows Zach and what's deep inside him, “So do you.” Kendall agrees she thought she did, and Greg Madden's murder changed everything. Myrtle knows it didn’t change her feeling for Zach. It's still there. Isn't it? Kendall repeats that Zach did it. He did it for Dixie. They have tangible evidence, and Tad Martin saw them. Myrtle holds out her hand and tells Kendall to give her the rings. She clutches them in her left hand, and tells Kendall she’ll let her have them back. She opens her hand and it’s empty; the rings are now in her right hand. Kendall looks at her in surprise, and Myrtle asks, “You see? Sometimes we think we know something, but we know zip.”

TRIAL, PART ONE…

The D.A. makes his opening statement to the jury, saying they will introduce ironclad physical evidence implicating both of the defendants. They will hear eyewitness testimony that cannot be refuted. Will it be enough for a guilty verdict? Absolutely. He wouldn't waste their time, or the court's, or the state's money. It's his job to prosecute criminals. They may believe after all the testimony they hear that Dr. Greg Madden himself was a criminal, but must keep in mind that Greg Madden is not on trial. Their personal opinions about Dr. Madden's character, or their sympathy for Ms. Martin's plight in no way justify or excuse murder. Whatever his sins, Greg Madden did not deserve the inhuman torture, suffering, and brutality that resulted in his horrifying death. Erica reaches over and pats Josh’s hand as the D.A. concludes this was no accident. It was murder.

Livia begins her opening statement, saying if the state's case were solid, she wouldn't be here. She does not defend people she believes are guilty. Did Ms. Martin and Mr. Slater have motive to want to pressure Greg Madden into giving them information? Yes. Did they commit this heinous crime? She doesn’t believe they did.
