HE DIDN’T KEEP HIS WORD!

“Josh really said that?” Babe asks. J.R. nods, according to Josh, they’re having an affair. “Did you believe him?” Babe asks. He must have had some reaction when Josh said that they slept together. When J.R. notes she seems pretty upset by it, Babe asks, “Aren’t you?” J.R. replies that Josh has been after her for a long time now, and he’s gotten pretty used to that. But, when he made that announcement to him, it was something else. Babe is so sorry. She hates this so much! J.R. thinks it must hurt her. She’s tried to help Josh, done everything she could for him, and he runs to him and stabs her in the back. Babe asks if he didn’t believe him, even consider it for a minute? J.R. says as much as Colby and David. They’ve talked about this, and he believes her and only her. She wasted her loyalty on him. Does she get it now? “Do you see who this guy is?”

Babe says it never should have come to this, but J.R. wonders how Josh could resist? Babe calls it a cruel thing to do, but J.R. knows he wants her any way he can get her. Babe insists Josh understands her future is with her husband and son—what was he thinking? J.R. says he thought he’d believe him and trash their relationship. Babe declares she’ll never forgive him for this! He respected how she felt, he knew she couldn’t be with him—he knew that it was over! “Knew what was over?” J.R. asks. Babe says she thought his crazy idea that they could be together was over. She was very clear with him that J.R. had been wonderful and very strong, and she loves him very much. Did this just come out of the blue? J.R. says he told Josh he was lucky he didn’t hook up with her, because if he had, he’d have to smack him down permanently. Babe sighs he rubbed his face in it, that he was the big winner, and Josh was a… “Gigantic loser, that’s right,” J.R. agrees. Babe feels he shouldn’t have goaded him, but J.R. declares Josh has been trying to screw over his marriage, and he can’t draw the line? If this were last year, he would have put him in a wheelchair with his jaw wired shut, but he didn’t because he trusts her and believes her, and felt she handled him hitting on her the right way. Babe knows he made Josh want to hit back. J.R. nods, so he claimed they went at it, so now he’s unemployed. Let him cause trouble somewhere else. Babe worries about what Josh will do. All bets are off now—he didn’t keep his word! “His word about what?” J.R. asks. Babe is saved from answering when Krystal and Adam come in to share the joyous news that they’re about as perfect as a test can guarantee—they’re about to have a perfectly healthy little girl! J.R. congratulates them and calls it wonderful. He raises his glass and toasts to one big, happy family.

ANYTHING YOU HAVE TO GIVE…

Ryan tells the Spikeman he’s a lucky guy—he gets to have a sleepover with Emma! He tells Annie to try not to worry, because this is going to be a good thing. Annie wonders why they can’t just run the swab through some machine and give you the results while you wait? Ryan thinks DNA testing is a little more complicated than blood testing, that’s all. Annie sighs she’s her baby—why can’t she prove it? Why doesn’t their DNA match? Ryan tells her the answer’s out there, and he promises he’s going to find it.

Emma wants to sleep in the makeshift tent, and Ryan puts Spike in with her until they both fall asleep. Annie thanks him for not pushing the DNA test, but Ryan insists that was her decision to make, and she was kind of under enough pressure already. They look over at their children, commenting how innocent they look, and Ryan adds they’re safe, too. When he sighs that Spike had a 103° fever and he wasn’t there, Annie tells him that was her fault. Spike’s lucky; he’s the kind of dad kids should have. Ryan thinks if he could be half the parent she is, he’d be happy.

Ryan says the way Emma was reading that story to Spike, he thought she had it memorized. Annie tells him she reads it to her every night, and that story is never the same twice. Ryan asks why, does she get bored? Annie laughs he really is new at this! You need to tailor their favorites to get them to sleep, so you cut out sections, or use a hypnotic voice to get them to bed faster. That is just a taste of the Parents’ Survival Guide. Kids are bundles of pure energy—they need every defense they can get! Ryan teases her about cheating, and she says to wait until Spike’s favorite bedtime story is 90 pages long! He’ll wish he was back in the day of reading thin books about pigs and pancakes. Ryan asks what if he likes the classics? Annie grins he’ll read the ending and give him the trailer version, like the previews in the movies. You stick to the highlights and when he notices Spike starting to nod off, flip to the last page. It works, until they catch on. Ryan thinks this is the kind of training he needs, and is pleased when Annie says she is here all night. He tells her anything she has to give, he wants.

Annie shows Ryan how to quickly end their game of checkers, and he exclaims that’s cheating! She says no, when the sun is down and it is time for bed, that is a legal move. It’s not whether you win or lose, the object is to end the game while you still have your sanity. Ryan grins she’s good at this. Annie knows. She asks why he and Kendall aren’t figuring out these tricks together, or isn’t there a “together” anymore? When Ryan doesn’t respond, Annie says never mind about Kendall; she didn’t mean to pry. Ryan says he thought he and Kendall might get back together, but he was wrong. Annie wonders if he’s okay with that? Ryan tells her he has Spike, and doesn’t need anything else. Annie asks if he’s sure about that? Ryan explains that he and Kendall have tried before, and it never worked out. In the long haul, it wasn’t meant to be. This time around, when things got a little heated up, he guesses he got a little carried away, and you can’t ask someone to sign on to your fantasy. Annie thinks it can work sometimes, but Ryan says not with Kendall.
