Kendall explained that Aidan was also going to Chicago for work, and he happened to be on her plane—was that okay with her? Greenlee said of course—why wouldn’t it be? Did Zach know? Kendall said no, she hadn’t had a chance to call him yet. Aidan returned and took the phone; Greenlee noted that Kendall was acting a little weird. Aidan agreed, she was nervous about her book signing, that’s all. He asked if she was sure she was okay? He could try to get off this flight and come back to the hospital. Greenlee assured him she was fine.
Kendall was sure Greenlee suspected something, but Aidan insisted she was just paranoid—calm down before she drove them both nuts! Saying she was going to be sick, Kendall bolted from her seat again. She returned and worried if Zach ever found out about them sleeping together, he would never forgive her, “What if I really lose him?” She’d dealt with secrets before, and secrets have always come back to haunt her. Aidan said that’s why they needed to make a vow to protect this one with their lives. Zach and Greenlee could never know. Kendall nodded, “No matter what.” Both were dismayed when the flight was delayed due to mechanical difficulties.
SO THIS IS MY BOY?
Hurt when Ryan came to Zach’s to talk to Kendall, Annie left. Zach said Kendall was away, but suggested they sit and talk. He wasn’t going to pretend to know what he was going through, but Annie was a good person. It couldn’t have been easy for her to hear how he needed to talk to another woman. Maybe next time, he’d want to make an effort. When Zach offered any help he could provide, Ryan wondered if it was just because he didn’t want him anywhere near Kendall. When Rachel came in with Spike, Zach called it perfect timing. He took him from Rachel and told Ryan, “Mr. Lavery, this is Spike, your son.” Ryan repeated, “This is my son, mine and Kendall’s.” Zach reminded him that Emma needed her dad, too, and Annie needed her husband.
Alone in the park, Annie cried as she thought back to when she first met Ryan, their courtship, how they fell in love and got married.
NOT WITHOUT MY JESSE…
Angie told Joe she was taking his advice to visit Jesse’s grave, and it felt like she was saying the final goodbye. Joe wished he could convince her to stay on at the hospital, but Angie insisted there were too many memories there. She didn’t want to be there, “Not without my Jesse.” She was just going to Jesse’s grave to say goodbye, because it was time.
WORTH THE RISK…
Tad was surprised to find Jesse at the cemetery; Jesse said he figured he’d just say one last goodbye to his old life before he rolled out of there. Tad asked, “What if it doesn’t have to be goodbye?” He wasn’t the same screw-up he knew 20 years ago. He could help him, and had already started to look into things, but it would help if he would give him a couple of the details. When Jesse said he’d already put him in enough danger, Tad called it a good thing that he thought he was worth the risk. Jesse reminded him of his promise to keep his family safe, and the old friends shared a hug before Tad left. Alone, Jesse flashed back 20 years to when he was being held captive. He shook his head to erase the memory and again knelt down by the grave.
TOTALLY LYING ABOUT BEING FINE…
Greenlee ended her call with Aidan and sighed that she was totally lying about being fine—being stuck here sucked! Jack arrived, and Greenlee told him how she wanted things to be back to normal. She’d spoken to Aidan, who offered to come back, but she told him not to. When he did come back, she was going to make sure he never wanted to leave town again without her! Later, she was overjoyed when Aidan returned and surprised her, even giving her a pedicure to make her feel better.
OH, NO, NO, NO—I CAN’T BE!
As Kendall waited for the plane to board, a woman asked, “Feeling a little sick?” Surprised, Kendall asked if it showed? The woman handed her something, “These things saved my life in the first trimester. Keep them.” Kendall saw that she was pregnant and gasped, “Oh, no, no, no. I can’t be.” She took out her organizer and thought aloud, “Okay, so I forgot a couple of pills when Zach was missing. That doesn’t mean that I’m…” Just to make sure, she bought a home pregnancy test.
WE’LL JUST TAKE IT SLOW…
Ryan returned to the penthouse and told Annie he couldn’t make her any promises except that he’d try, if she’d have him. Annie told him she said that she would be here, and she meant it. They agreed they should take it slow. When she went to the kitchen, Ryan looked at a framed picture of Spike with Kendall, his Daddy Ryan and Daddy Zach.
BEST TO LEAVE THE PAST ALONE…
Tad went to the hospital and asked if he was able to talk Angie into sticking around permanently? Joe sighed that he gave it his best shot. He thought that being around home had dredged up some old memories, some that she was maybe not ready to deal with. Tad could understand that, “Sometimes it’s best to leave the past alone, no matter how much it hurts to say goodbye.”
Angie went to Jesse’s grave, and fainted when she saw him. Jesse held her in his arms as he called for an ambulance, and watched from a distance as the EMTs arrived.
Angie was brought into the hospital, and told Joe she knew it was going to sound crazy, but Jesse was at the cemetery, right there in front of her. Joe told her sometimes we see what we want to see.
Jesse caught up with Tad in the parking garage and told him he needed his help; he needed to know Angela was okay before he left town for good. He had to convince Angie she hadn’t seen him. She couldn’t know there might be a chance he was still alive. Tad agreed, and convinced Jesse to hide out in his basement in the meantime.
Angie looked at the picture of Jesse in her locket and sighed that he was so young when he died, when they took this picture, “But today, you were older, like you would’ve been if you’d lived. How could I have imagined that? How?”
