A VOW TO PROTECT A SECRET…

“Kendall? Are you there?” Greenlee asks. Kendall says yes, she’s sorry; the reception on the plane is kind of bad. Greenlee doesn’t get it—what is she doing with Aidan’s phone? Kendall explains that Aidan is also going to Chicago for work, and he happens to be on her plane. He’s actually sitting right next to her. Greenlee asks, “So you and Aidan are going to Chicago together?” Kendall agrees they’re flying together. Is that okay with her? Greenlee says of course it is—why wouldn’t it be? Does Zach know? Kendall says she hasn’t had a chance to call Zach yet; her cell is in the overhead. Greenlee asks if Aidan is back yet? Kendall says no, not yet, and she has no idea why they’re delayed. Greenlee hopes she makes it to her signing, and Kendall agrees. Aidan returns, and Kendall gives him the phone. Greenlee says she misses him. Aidan misses her, too, and Greenlee says at least he has Kendall to keep him company. Aidan calls it quite a coincidence that they’re both on the flight, and Greenlee notes that Kendall is acting a little weird. Aidan agrees, she’s nervous about her book signing, that’s all. Greenlee hopes he gets to his job on time, and he asks if she’s sure she’s okay? He could try to get off this flight and come back to the hospital. Greenlee assures him she’s fine, and Aidan says he’ll give her a call when he lands. They exchange “I love yous”, and end the call.

Kendall tells Aidan that Greenlee knows something—she knows she does! There was this edge in her voice when she heard that they were together, or maybe she came across as too nervous… Aidan thinks she’s just paranoid, but Kendall goes on that she may have been suspicious about them and then all she had to hear was that they were together on the plane. Aidan tells her to just calm down before she drives them both nuts! Saying she’s going to be sick, Kendall bolts from her seat again.

Kendall returns and says she thinks there’s a bug going around Spike’s play group; she thinks she’s just been so crazy and so busy that she didn’t realize she caught it. Aidan notes that worrying about stuff that doesn’t matter probably isn’t helping. Kendall repeats, “Doesn’t matter? We slept together, Aidan!” Greenlee is very intuitive. She’s sure she suspects something. Aidan thinks she’s probably just down because she’s stuck in that hospital, and they’re on their way to work. Kendall argues that she knows they’re together here, and maybe she thinks they’re getting closer or something. Aidan notes they’re not getting closer, so there’s nothing to worry about. He adds that Zach loves her more than anything in the whole world. Kendall knows that. Aidan adds that she loves him, and he loves Greenlee. Kendall knows that, but if Zach ever found out… Aidan insists he won’t. Kendall asks how he knows that? He can’t be sure of that! And if he finds out before she has a chance to tell him herself, he will never forgive her, “What if I really lose him?”

Aidan thinks she should really give herself a break; she’s living on the edge. Kendall’s sorry, but she’s really stressed out about keeping this from Zach. She really is sorry. Aidan accepts her apology, and Kendall goes on that she knows neither one of them wants to hurt Zach or Greenlee. Aidan agrees, they’ve been through enough. Kendall doesn’t understand how he does it, and wishes she had his confidence. She’s dealt with secrets before, and secrets have always come back to haunt her. Aidan says that’s why they need to make a vow to protect this one with their lives. Zach and Greenlee can never know. Kendall nods, “No matter what.” Aidan holds out his hand, “Deal?” She takes it, “Deal.” The flight attendant’s voice comes over the speaker, saying they apologize for the inconvenience, but they’re having some mechanical difficulties and are going to have to deplane at this time. They’ll still be offering their non-stop flight to O’Hare as soon as possible. They’ll ask them to wait in the airport lounge until they’re ready to board another plane. Aidan sighs that he can’t believe this. He stands to help her with her things, and Kendall holds her stomach as she thinks back to the night she and Aidan had sex. Aidan asks if she’s sure she’s okay? Kendall agrees she’s fine.

SO THIS IS MY BOY?

Annie is surprised when Ryan comes through the door, and asks what he’s doing here? Ryan says he came to see Kendall. He needs to talk to her. Zach tells him she’s out of town, but his wife’s here. He can talk to her. Ryan knows this is hard for all of them, but he doesn’t know him or Annie. Kendall and Greenlee are the only two people he does know. “And trust,” Annie adds. Ryan tells her he’s sorry, he’s trying here. Annie gets that it’s not his fault, but it’s hard hearing him talk about all the other women in his life. “In his past,” Zach corrects. Annie says she was just leaving. She has to go. She leaves, and Ryan asks if he has any idea when Kendall will be back? Zach tells him it’s going to be a while, “Come sit. Let’s talk, have a beer.” Ryan sits down, and the men have an awkward moment before Zach says he’s not going to pretend to know what he’s going through, but Annie is a good person. It can’t have been easy for her to hear how he needs to talk to another woman. Maybe next time, he wants to make an effort. Ryan thinks this was a bad idea. Zach agrees it probably was but they’re here, so they should try, make it easier. Ryan protests that he’s a stranger to him. He really appreciates the effort, but doesn’t see how he can make this easier for him. Zach doesn’t either, but he’d like to try. Ryan stands and says he thinks he’ll come back another time. When Zach says to let him help him, Ryan wonders if he’s sure that’s what he’s trying to do? Because maybe he doesn’t want him anywhere near Kendall. Zach agrees that of course he’s protective of Kendall, the same way he’s protective of his wife, Annie. Ryan insists he doesn’t mean any harm at all, not to him or Kendall, and definitely not to Annie. He so wishes that she could be happy.
