I ALREADY GOT YOU ONCE…

At the hospital, Babe thanks J.R. for taking her out for coffee, but he really didn’t have to come back here with her. When he says he wants to be here for Richie, Babe asks why? J.R. replies that she’s worried, and he doesn’t like to see her worried. Babe sighs that she thought Richie was over the hard part, but then out of nowhere, he gets so sick. J.R. knows, and then he goes on the attack. Babe insists he was delirious, but J.R. tells her he said he wanted to kill him, that he was going to finish it next time! Babe says he heard Dr. Joe, he didn’t know what he was saying. If he’s going to give Richie a hard time… J.R. says no, he won’t. He’s here for her. Babe doesn’t know if she believes that. J.R. asks when she’s going to get it? He’ll put up with Richie, he’ll take the abuse. He’ll do just about anything for her.

As a nurse helps Babe and J.R. put on gowns and masks, she says Richie is still stable, responding really well to the antibiotics, but they have to try to protect him from getting any further infections. She thinks they were a little bit too optimistic before and lenient with the rules. Babe asks if she’s sure it’s okay that they go in and see him? The nurse says yes, just keep their masks and gowns on. They go into Richie’s room, and Babe says his name. When he opens his eyes, she tells him he gave them a scare. Richie notes that Junior keeps coming back here. Why is that? J.R. says they were afraid he wasn’t going to make it, and Richie tells him not to worry, he’s not going to die. He takes Babe’s hand as he says it’s amazing when you want someone, what that’ll do for your will to live. He’s going to walk out of here, with Babe. J.R. agrees he may walk out of here with Babe, but he’s going to have to find himself another place to stay. The mansion happens to be a bit crowded right now. Babe admonishes him, and J.R. asks if she didn’t tell him? Babe sighs and tells Richie she’s staying at the Chandlers’ right now. He asks why, and she says she can’t talk about it. Richie glares at J.R as he says fine, she’ll tell him when she needs to. Babe asks how he’s feeling? Richie says he’s a little tired, a little short of breath sometimes, but otherwise, he’s fine. Babe asks if Joe explained why he got so sick? Richie says not yet, but he just left to find out the latest test results. Babe thinks she’s going to go track him down, and Richie suggests she leave J.R. here with him so they can talk. Babe doesn’t think he needs to stress himself, but J.R. says it’s okay, he won’t let him. Richie tells her it’s all right, he’ll behave, and Babe leaves the room. Richie asks what he did to her this time? J.R. lowers his mask and deliberately coughs as he says not a thing. She moved back into the house all by herself. It’s just so great to have her back where she belongs. Babe likes him, as a friend. He doesn’t want it to be hard on her when they’re all together, so why don’t they just try to get along? “No, thanks,” Richie smiles. J.R. notes he must really hate him, even after he offered his bone marrow—what’s a guy to do? Richie tells him he is so smug and such a fool, and he has no idea. J.R. suggests he enlighten him, but Richie tells him there’s no point. J.R. nods, right, because of his plan to finish him. How exactly does he plan to do that? Richie has no idea what he’s talking about. J.R. tells him when he took his turn for the worse, he was with Babe, “You threatened me.” Richie laughs and asks what he thinks he’d do to him? “I mean, what’s your worst nightmare?” J.R. replies, “Don’t worry there, Richie Rich. I’m not afraid of you.” Richie tells “Little Junior” that’s too bad, because he’s not going to win. J.R. questions if they’re playing games? Richie shrugs that he can suck Babe into his daddy’s castle, he can follow her anywhere, but when he’s strong again, when he gets out of here, he can kiss Babe goodbye.

Babe asks if Richie just has a cold, and Joe explains it’s an upper respiratory infection, which can be very dangerous to someone who’s recently had a bone marrow transplant, but he’s responding to treatment and they expect a full recovery. Babe thanks him for everything, and Joe tells her that Jamie sends his love. He had a call from him; he’s well, and doing very good work with his Uncle Jake in Zambia. Babe smiles as she says they’re such good guys. Joe agrees they are, and says he’s actually had more contact with them than Tad. He hasn’t answered any of his calls in the last couple of days and he’s beginning to get a little worried. Does her mom have any idea what’s going on with him? Babe tells him her mama said he was putting in long hours on a new case. She’s sure he’s fine, just working a little too hard.

Richie opens his eyes and notes that J.R.’s still here. J.R. says he dozed off. They must have him on some pretty heavy meds. Richie retorts, “Oh, it's not the meds. You just bore the hell out of me.” He asks where Babe is, and J.R. says she went to get him some chicken soup. Richie wants him to go wait in the car, but J.R. says he’s not finished with him. He might have been delirious when he made that threat to get him next time, but it was very real. So somewhere in that sick head of his, he thinks he must have got him in the past. He holds a pillow up to Richie’s face and says he’d better start explaining, or he’s going to get him. Richie chuckles, “You don't have the stones to kill me, boy.” J.R. asks who said anything about murder? “You suffocate, I'll tell the doctors you stopped breathing.” They’ll believe it—he was on death's door just a few hours ago, “So you either start talking or you stop breathing!” Babe comes back and exclaims, “J.R.!” J.R. shoves the pillow under Richie’s head as he says he was just giving Richie another pillow to help him sit up. Richie calls him smooth and smug; Babe says something tells her she doesn’t want to know what she missed. She gives Richie the chicken noodle soup, and he asks her to sit here and eat it with him.
