HOW MANY TIMES ARE YOU GOING TO BE SET UP?

When Babe opens the door and sees J.R., she notes he’s out of the hospital. J.R. nods, the doctors said he was responding to the treatment well enough that he could go home. Babe wonders, “So why aren’t you there?” He tells her he saw her light on. Can he come in for a minute? Babe reluctantly opens the door to let him in, and he says he wanted to thank her for being at the hospital. He was mostly out of it, but the nurses said she was by his bedside for hours. He also heard that she brought Little A…that was sweet. Babe asks if he knows why she brought their son to the hospital with her? They both had to get a gamma globulin shot—does he know how much those hurt? He cried all the way home from the hospital; he’s still very, very upset about it. J.R. holds back tears as he says he’s so sorry, but Babe goes on that it’s all because his father got drunk and caught hepatitis from sleeping with some hooker! When J.R. says he keeps telling her that this was a setup, she asks if part of this setup was giving him hepatitis? J.R. doesn’t know—he’s trying to figure this whole thing out. He takes a step toward her, but Babe tells him not to touch her! She’s not going to let him do this to her again, damn it! She’s not going to let him con her into buying his act again. J.R. doesn’t understand. She was with him at the hospital; she was holding his hand the entire time to help him get through this. What’s changed? Babe says what’s changed is that he’s on the road to recovery now, and she found out that he put their son in jeopardy from this. He’s been kissing him and fixing his breakfast and playing with him. She swears, if she finds out that he has made their little boy sick because he can’t keep his pants zipped, she will never forgive him for this! J.R. asks what it’s going to take for her to believe him? Krystal believes him. Tad’s given him the benefit of the doubt. Why can’t she? Babe says maybe because they haven’t been burned and used the way she has. She can be so clueless when it comes to him! She really believed that he wanted to save Richie’s life, but he had no intention of donating his bone marrow. He just wanted two things—he wanted scotch and sex! She sighs that she’s tired and is just going to bed, so… J.R. asks her to wait a second. He wanted to tell her that he remembered something. The night that he really got drunk and blacked out, the night that he thought he hit Zach Slater with his car, the night he was set up? He saw a man in The Comeback parking lot. He was messing with his car. Babe asks if he knows who this guy was? J.R. isn’t sure; he thinks it was right before Amanda picked him up. He was wearing a black leather jacket, he was wearing a ball cap. It had an emblem on it, “I swear, Babe, I am thisclose to remembering his face.”

Babe hopes that he remembers who framed him for the hit-and-run on Zach, but this has nothing to do with his most recent screw-up. She sighs that she’s too tired to stand here and argue with him about it anymore. She thinks it's just best if he went home. J.R. asks if she believed him that he was set up before, why can’t she believe that he was set up in that motel? She replies, “Because how many times are you going to be set up, J.R.?” J.R. calls that a good question. Just go with him on this. For argument's sake, say that somebody did set him up. Someone wanted people, her in particular, to believe that he was drunk and he had slept with that hooker. Now, go back to the night when everyone thought that he hit Zach Slater. Babe asks where he’s going with this? J.R. says someone set him up then and somebody has set him up recently. He knows he has ticked off a good chunk of this town one time or another, but he can't think of anyone who would want to try to put him in prison or have her turn against him, except… Babe doesn’t know if she likes where this is going. J.R. asks what if Richie is behind this? What if Richie Novak is behind this entire thing? Babe disgustedly says just when she thinks he has scraped the bottom, he finds another hole to climb into. J.R. asks if she’ll just look at this objectively? Richie wants him out of the way. He said it at the hospital. He threatened his life. He said he was going to "finish" it next time, "Next time." Babe reminds him that Richie was delirious when he said that. He almost died. J.R. repeats that Richie wants him out of the picture, and he wants her. Babe asks how much sense that makes? How could he set him up and put him in a hotel room with a prostitute at the exact same time that he's in Texas getting a bone marrow transplant? J.R. doesn’t know! He doesn’t have it figured out yet, but she has to admit… Babe says no, she has to admit that he’s breaking her heart. He knows that she loves him, but to see him reach like this? Blaming his problems, his drinking, on an innocent man? Richie did not set him up for the hit-and-run on Zach, and he definitely didn't plant him in that hotel room with that prostitute. She refuses to go through this with him anymore, “I won't go through it.” She wants him to go home. She doesn’t want to hear any more about how Richie is responsible for all of his problems. His drinking is his fault, and so is his selfish, irresponsible behavior when it comes to her and his son. He has to take responsibility for himself, so stop trying to pin this on Richie. He’s just going to make her even more angry with him, so please, just go home. J.R. tells her he proved before that this was a setup. He will prove it again, “I will find out who did this to me.”

DID HE GIVE YOU A HARD TIME TONIGHT?

Greenlee calls and leaves another message for Aidan. She’s really worried—where is he? “Call me, please.” She hangs up and sighs that she was such a jerk, but she really does love him.
