Really? Ryan asks, You want to end our marriage? Annie agrees she had the divorce papers drawn up, but she was just angry, like when she was angry and said that Emma was hers and not theirs. But then in there, they talked, and for a second, it was the way it used to be, and She should have talked to him about Ryan tells her its okay, I mean, maybe this is the answer. Maybe it is time for us to move on. Shes been amazing, so unbelievably patient, and hes only starting to get to know her. What he sees is all this kindness and strength, and she just deserves so much more. So if she decides that it is time to move on, then hes not going to stand in her way. Annie tells him to stop it, Not one more word. I swear, if you say one more thing, I will scream. Ryan says hes sorry, and Annie sighs, It was such a dream, you and me, Ryan. It was a fairy tale. She almost couldn't believe it was happening. Me and Erin, and her taking me to your home, which then became our home. And you protecting me and Emma from Terry, and then from the courts it's just another long story, of many. But they all had such a happy ending of you and me and Emma as a family. It was magic. And now, she has to accept that that doesn't exist anymore. Ryan tells her not to say that. Dont, because they made a home and a family, and to give that up? He hates it. Annie protests that he doesnt even remember. Ryan says but it kills him; she doesnt even know. When he went back to where he grew up, even though the building was torn down, even though there was nothing there but a vacant lot, he could still hear his old man scream. He could still smell the booze on his breath. And he remembers thinking to himself, as a kid, that he would never, ever grow up to be like him. He would never, ever just drink all day, and yell at his wife and beat his kids. And then he wakes up one day and finds out that he had the perfect life and he had the perfect wife and kids and happiness, happiness that he didn't even know existed when he was a kid. Only he had all that, except he doesnt know what it felt like because he doesnt remember. What he does remember is still being with Kendall, but he knows now that she's not the one. He understands that Kendall's not the one and he understands that Greenlee's not the one, but the one is somebody that he feels like he just met. Annie sighs that he used to know everything about her, and now she looks in his eyes and none of it is there. Ryan asks, But what if it comes back? He knows he should move on, get on with his life, and he knows that she should, too, but what if Annie asks, What are you saying, Ryan? What is it that you want now? Shes not trying to push, but shes having a hard time keeping up, so what is it he thinks he wants now? Ryan says he told her, hes trying to aim for the future, as tricky as that is. Annie tells him hell be okay. He has a lot of people that care about him. Ryan says thats another thing he doesnt understand. After all the stunts that hes pulled, he doesnt know how anybody could be hanging around him. Annie says to trust her, everybody in this town have made their fair share of mistakes. If he honestly doesnt want to hurt her, then just tell her what he wants, because shes too tired and too hurt to have to figure it out herself. Ryan wonders, What if I asked you to just to hold off on the filing? What if I asked you to give our marriage, to give me just a little more time? He feels like hes on the road with no map and no destination, and it used to be that that would make him feel free, but right now it makes him feel trapped. Annie nods, right, by her and by this marriage. Ryan says no, trapped by the unknown. He just doesnt want to make any more mistakes. Annie wonders, So is getting a divorce a mistake, or is staying married a mistake? Ryan tells her he knows hes taken so much from her. Hes imposed on her kindness and her understanding and her generosity, and he knows he has no right. He guesses he just wants to have a reason to move forward, something to hope for. He guesses what hes asking is if she would give him just a little bit more time. Annie slowly picks up the divorce papers; she tears them in half and then in half again, laying the pieces on the table. She stands and says she has to get home to Emma. Ryan also stands, but she tells him to stop, I'm trying to get out of here without crying, and I don't know if I'm going to make it. She hurries out; Ryan looks at the torn papers and sighs with relief.
WHAT, ARE WE FRIENDS AGAIN?
Greenlee paces as she watches the door at ConFusion; when she sees Zach, she says he came. You called, he shrugs. Greenlee notes he sounds surprised, and Zach agrees he is. When she says she needs his help, he asks, My help? What, are we friends again? Is he wrong? Because hes been wrong before. Greenlee takes his hand and leads him to sit down with her as she says one fight doesn't end a friendship. Besides, she said way meaner things to him in the bomb shelter, and look at them now. Theyre buddies. Zach calls that true; they bump fists and she says, Lets move on. Zach asks what she needs? She tells him she needs the love of her life, that man of her dreams, And you have to help me get him back. Zach questions, Ryan? Greenlee says Aidan, Aidan is the one I want and need and love, not Ryan.
